Comparison of Activity in Culture Medium

چکیده

The aminoglycoside antibiotics, particularly gentamicin, are increasingly widely used and frequently in patients with impaired renal function. All these drugs are potentially ototoxic and measurement of blood levels is often desirable but may be complicated by the presence of a second drug, most commonly a penicillin or cephalosporin. Assays of streptomycin in the presence of penicillin have been done for many years by the simple expedient of adding commercial penicillinase, and Newsome (1967) suggested that this might also inactivate cephaloridine, methicillin, and cloxacillin. However, it seems that not only different brands of penicillinase, but even different batches of the same manufacturer may vary in this respect (Garrod and O'Grady, 1971) and many workers have felt that it was unwise to rely upon any and have either used an organism known to be resistant to the second drug to assay the aminoglycoside or declined to attempt the assay. Most commercial penicillinases are prepared from cultures of B. cereus or B. licheniformis which produce both beta-lactamase I which inactivates penicillin and ampicillin, and beta-lactamasellwhich inactivates the penicillinase-resistant penicillins and cephalosporins. The variability in the commercially available material is mainly due to the instability of beta-lactamase II, but the development by Sabath and Abraham (1966) of a zinc stabilized enzyme from B. cereus 569H opened up the possibility of the commercial production of a 'universal penicillinase' which could be relied upon to inactivate all the penicillins and cephalosporins in clinical use. A freeze-dried preparation containing both beta-lactamases I and II, which is made from B. cereus 569/H by the procedure of R. B. Davies and E. P. Abraham (unpublished), is now available from

Influence of Plant Growth Regulators on Callus Induction, Silymarin Production and Antioxidant Activity in Milk Thistle (Silybum marianum L. Gaertn.) under Tissue Culture Medium

The Silybum marianum (L.) Gaertn. is the dicotyledonous herbs of the Asteraceae family that is important in medical industry. The biological active compound of S. marianum is a mixture of several flavonolignals generally known as silymarin. The purpose of this study was to optimize S. marianum tissue culture for callus induction, silymarin production and comparison of some biochemical traits be...

Spontaneous Mesenchymal to Epithelial Like Tissue Transition (MET) in a Long Term Human Skin Culture

In an attempt to isolate multipotent stem cells from foreskin in a long-term culture, we encountered an interesting phenomenon which was the conversion of the fibroblast dominant condition to epithelial-like tissue formation. However, the basic mechanism(s) which may be involved in this conversion is not clear. This study was designed to evaluate the cells protein secretion activity and examine...

O-16: Comparison of Pre-Antral Follicle Culture Development during 2 Dimensional and 3 Dimensional Culture Systems

Background: Setting up an in vitro follicle culture system that resembles in vivo ovary condition has high value in research. Additionally, expression evaluation of folliculogenesis involved genes could lead us to the designing of better culture system. Materials and Methods: ovaries of 12-day-old female NMRI mice were removed, 100-130 μm pre-antral follicles were mechanically isolated from fre...

Comparison between batch and fed-batch production of rhamnolipid by Pseudomonas aeruginosa

This paper presents a comparison between batch and three different sets of fed batch fermentations forrhamnolipid production by Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The batch run was performed with 500 ml of culturemedium having the initial glycerol and sodium nitrate concentrations of 30 and 8.3 g/l, respectively. For a fedbatch run with nitrogen source in feed, 250 ml of the nitrogen exc...

Comparison of the effect of Growth Factors on the Development of Pre-implantation Embryos of Vitrified Mouse

Purpose: To improve the development of frozen mouse embryos by adding fibroblast growth factors (FGF) and hepatocytes (HGF) to the culture medium. Materials and Methods: Two-cell mouse embryos obtained from the fallopian tube and frozen by cryotopic method were treated in T6 medium with a dose of 20 ng / ml FGF and 20 ng / ml HGF. The results of their culture were compared with control groups a...
